Faculty member of IUE Political Science and International Relations, Assoc. Prof. Devrim Sezer's article, which brings together the political theory with the Genocide and Holocaust Studies, was published in the journal 'S: I.M.O.N.': "Shoah. Intervention. Methods. Documentation."
In the article, Prof. Sezer scrutinizes the objections to the concept of genocide by classifying these objections under three headings: historiographical, ethical and pragmatic. Why is it such a controversial issue to name crimes committed in the past? How important is the naming issue in dealing with the past? How does the concept of genocide differ analytically and ethically from concepts such as crime against humanity, extreme violence, and massacre? The article, which opens such questions for discussion, draws attention to both the historical origin of the concept and the ongoing effects of the damage caused by the act of genocide on the victim community.
