In their co-authored article “Projective identification, anxiety, and ontological (in)security in populist leadership: Erdoğanism and Trumpism”, published in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (ESCI, Q1), Adısönmez and Senem B. Çevik offer a novel argument: populist movements function as collective psychic defences against ontological insecurity. Through splitting and projective identification, populist leaders turn anxiety into antagonism.
Adısönmez has also reviewed İhsan Dağı and Ahmet Erdi Öztürk’s edited volume “Anti-Westernism in Turkey: Historical and Ideological Roots” for Southeast European and Black Sea Studies (SSCI, Q1). The volume asks why anti-Westernism is so prevalent in Turkey despite the country’s long, deep entanglement with Western models.
