It is the anniversary of the death of George Floyd who was killed by the racist police violence. Devrim Sezer’s article “While the Statues Fall: Transforming the Public Memory Landscape” published in Birikim last June, based on this murder, offers a comparative study of memory culture from the US to the UK, from Germany to Turkey and underlines the importance of the reevaluation of the past today and the distinctiveness of confronting the history in democratic politics.
